Galloway Kickstarted Preseason Training Camp With A Draw Against Orlando Pirates

Zimbabwe Warriors defender Brendan Galloway’s Plymouth Argyle came twice from behind as they drew 2-2 against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates on Friday in their opening preseason encounter under Wayne Rooney.

The match was played in Malaga, Spain where both teams are holding pre-season training camp.

The 28-year-old Zimbabwe-born left-back was introduced in the second half as Rooney, the former Manchester United star made wholesale changes to the Pilgrims first XI after half time.

Argyle were trailing 2-1 in the first half but Callum Wright scored from close range in the 63rd minutes to restore parity as the Pilgrims went on to draw 2-2 against the Soweto giants.

Galloway is raring to go for the new season after offered another contract extension that will see him at the club until 2026 and will be expecting to stay away from injuries and feature in more games for the club.

The Pilgrims will head to the Suzuki stadium on the 20th July to meet League Two side Cheltenham Town. They will then  play Vanarama league side Torquay United on the 27th July before engaging Bristol Rovers who finished 15th in League one. Argyle will complete their preseason training with a match against Galloway’s former club MK Dons as Rooney’s team prepare for 2024-25 Sky Bet Championship season.

Meanwhile Orlando Pirates are scheduled to play Spanish giants Sevilla, as well as Qatar’s Al Sadd as they prepare for the 2024/25 Dstv premiership season.

Andrew Rinomhota will also get to meet familiar opponents as his side Cardiff City are scheduled to play South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns who host at least 90% of players in Bafana-Bafana squad that defeated Zimbabwe Warriors in June World Cup qualifiers for their final preparatory encounter in Austria on the 23rd of July.
