Chelsea Secure Mheuka’s Future
Chelsea have secured the future of starlet Shumaira Mheuka after signing a scholarship form that put him in line for a professional contract at the club.
The 16-year-old highly-rated striker of Zimbabwean descent is among the 11 players who have been offered scholarship deals at Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The new scholars will begin their first main step towards getting a pro contract in the under-18s squad where they will help to defend the South league title.
According to theChels.net Mheuka who started playing under-18 football during his Under-14 season at Brighton, in 2022 before moving to Cobham in 2022/23 season. He bagged 12 goals in 21 appearances (13 starts) last season for both the under 17s and under-18s and would’ve had more were it not for a three-month injury absence.
A star for the England Under-17 team at the summer’s European Championships, he is a big, physical centre-forward presence who makes quick decisions with strong technique and a clinical eye for goal.
Mheuka appeared regularly in Sulaiman’s squad last season, scoring nine goals in 16 matches for the Under-18s. He made his first Stamford Bridge appearance in the Under-18 Premier League National Final against Manchester United.
The talented forward who is son to former Mutare boys high and Zimbabwe Saints midfielder Malcolm Mheuka, will now be targeting to earn his first professional contract at the club, but can only happen after he turns 17 in October.
