Chiwome And Chirewa Among Youngsters Included In Wolves First Team Training Camp
Leon Chiwome and Tawanda Chirewa are among the few talented young players in the Wolvermpton Wanderers’ squad for their training camp in Marbella.
Wolves landed in Spain on Tuesday for a week-long training camp in Marbella to prepare for the start of the season. A total of 29 players have been selected to make the trip to Spain for the training camp, and Zimbabwean young duo of Chiwome and Chirewa are among the highly rated youngsters to look forward to ahead of the season.
The squad includes three new signings Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen, returning loanees and a few youngsters, with a training camp and behind-closed-doors friendly on the agenda while in Spain.
The duo of Chiwome and Chirewa will be working hard to continue from where they left off last season and hoping to get more first-team minutes in the upcoming Premier league season.
The 18-year-old Chiwome who recently returned from injury that cut his campaign short last season- featuring in only four games for the first team, is eager to impress Gary O’Neil during pre-season, but could also be sent out on loan to get first team experience as Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in the English Championship league have reportedly showed interest to get the talented striker on loan for the season.
The England born starlet is among a pool of highly rated youngsters based overseas targeted to represent the Warriors. He was considered in the preliminary squad for the 2026 World cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria last year but did not make it.
And Chirewa, the 20-year-old forward who made the move to Molineux from Ipswich Town in September, initially to be part of the under-21s, but quickly showed his future was going to lie with Gary O’Neil’s first-team, is longing for a first team position.
With ten appearances in premier league and FA Cup during his debut campaign in gold and black plus two international caps and a goal for Zimbabwe Warriors in the FIFA world cup qualifiers, Chirewa is ready to fight for a place in the team – although he understands the difficulty of the task ahead of him.
Manager Gary O’Neil will have ample time to assess who will make up his squad for the 2024/25 campaign as the team is scheduled to travel to the United States of America for the tour soon after Spain training camp.
