Songani Seals Top Icelandic League Promotion With IF Vestri

Warriors and former F. C Platinum forward Silas Songani will be playing in the Icelandic best division next season after winning promotion to the top division league with IF Vestri for the first time in forty years following a 1-0 win over Aftureldingu in the promotional play-off final on Saturday.

Vestri broke the deadlock in the 103rd minute to beat Aftureldingu 1-0 and book their place in the Men’s top division.

Vestra who last had a team in the Icelandic best division in 1983, finished fourth on the log in the regular season with 39 points from 22 games to qualify for the promotional play-offs.

They reached the final after winning a combined 2-1 over Fjolnir in the home and away playoff semi-final encounter with Songani scoring in the 1-0 first leg match win before a 1-1 draw in the second leg to set up a final against Aftureldingu who finished second in the regular season.

Songani (34) joined IF Vestri in 2022 after two seasons at FC Platinum. He scored four goals in 21 league games for Vestra this season.

The former Harare City forward returned home in 2020 to join FC Platinum after six years in Denmark and Norway.
