Munetsi Go Up A Gear After Signing New Contract At Reims
Inform Zimbabwe Warriors central midfielder Nyasha Munetsi scored the only goal of the match as Stade de Reims edged Ligue 1 giants Lille 1-0 in a league match on Saturday.
The 26-year-old former Orlando Pirates player went into the match after rewarded with an improved one year deal that will tie him down at the club until 2027 after an outstanding season.
His initial deal that was signed last year, was due to expire in 2026 but the club made a decision to improve Munetsi’s contract due to his rising status at the club.
The Mabvuku-born star quickly responded to the good gesture by scoring in the 21st minutes of the match as Stade de Reims beat Lille 1-0 to take their points tally to 50 points from 34 matches, occupying 9th position on the Uber Eats Ligue 1 log table.
His new contract includes £100 per every kilometer covered by the midfielder on the field of play, the money to be donated to Marshall Munetsi foundation by the club.
The Zimbabwean is currently the second outfield player to have covered the greatest distance in a Ligue 1 Uber Eats match (13.7 km)+
He has covered more than 1227km ever since he made his debut in the Ligue 1 for Stade de Reims in 2019.
Munetsi has been able, over the seasons, to expand his technical palette and sharpen his sense of goal.
From being used as a central defender by previous managers – David Guion and Oscar Garcia – the Warriors star is now being identified as an attacking midfielder, or high point of a midfield three. Associated with Azor Matusiwa and Dion Lopy with whom he forms one of the most complementary midfielders in Ligue 1 Uber Eats.
His goal in yesterday’s win brings his total tally to seven goals and three assists so far this season in the league.
Munetsi is having perhaps his best season in Ligue 1 so far featuring in 30 of the club’s current 34 matches in the Uber Eats Ligue 1.
