Mushekwi Returns To Chinese Super League With Zhejiang
Zimbabwe’s veteran forward Nyasha Mushekwi is back in the Chinese top flight league- this time with Zhejiang Professional after beating Qingdao (0-1) 0-0 on aggregate in the promotional play-offs played on Wednesday to book their place in the top flight league.
The 34-year-old Mushekwi who also helped Dalian Pro (formerly Dalian Yifang) to promotion in 2017, is back in the Chinese top flight league a year after being forced out of Dalian Pro to join league one side Zhejiang Greentown.
Mushekwi who only played in the last five minutes of the game in their 0-1 first leg win against Qingdao, started in the second leg and was later substituted in the 85th minutes as they drew nil all – to secure their promotion place and return to the Super league after missing for five seasons
Zhejiang were relagated from the Chinese Super League in 2016.
This is the second time Mushekwi has won promotion with a Chinese league one side.
In 2017 he became the top scorer of Dalian Pro after banging 16 goals to help the team win the championship and an automatic promotion to the Super league.
However, despite impressing for Dalian Pro where he was the club’s top scorer in all three seasons he was at the club with a total of 48 goals and becoming the club’s second all the time scorer after South Africa’s Dino Ndlovu, was still let go.
The Zimbabwean was forced out of the club after the owners made a new investment into the team to challenge for honors.
The Wanda group invested more than 2-3 Billion RMB (€ 230m-400m) for a massive recruitment of top talent in Europe to help Dalian Pro challenge for titles bringing in players like Tomas Hamsick, Nicholas Gaitan, Yannick Carrasco and Rondon to strengthen the team.
However, this was not to be as Dalian Pro find themselves back in the league one- two years after their promotion.
Zhejiang are promoted to the Chinese Super League alongside Wuhan Three Towns,
Meizhou Hakka and Chengdu Rongcheng whilst Qingdao joins Dalian Pro in relegation to league one.
It remains to be seen whether Mushekwi will continue at Zhejiang – which is most likely or he will head to Sweden his second home to wind up his career at Djurgadens.
