Mapeza To Lead The Warriors In Cameroon
Former Zimbabwe Warriors skipper Norman Mapeza has been re-appointed as Warriors coach to lead the national team in Cameroon for the Africa cup of nations finals.
The FC Platinum coach who presided in Warriors’ last four World Cup qualifiers as interim-coach was re-appointed after consultation with the Sports and Recreation Commission due to the suspension of Zimbabwe football Association committee by the (SRC).
According to Zimbabwe’s Chronicle newspaper acting chief executive officer Xolisani Gwasela said Mapeza will be given latitude to come up with his assistants.
“In consultation and guidance from Sports and Recreation Commission, coach Norman Mapeza will continue as head coach and will guide Warriors to Cameroon AFCON finals. The coach has been given latitude to choose his assistants in the interest of team work,” said Gwasela.
However former Manchester city forward Benjani Mwaruwari who recently acquired his UEFA coaching license badge will be the third assistant coach at the Afcon in the virtue of being the Under-23 coach.
Mapeza previously worked with Madhla Mpofu, Taurai Magwiro and Energy Murambadoro.
Zimbabwe Warriors will kick-start their campaign against Senegal on the 10th of January 2022 before taking on Malawi and Guinea on the 14th and 18th of January to complete group B matches.
The top two finishers in each group as well as the four best third-place finishers qualify for the round of 16.
