Mushekwi Surpasses 20-Goal Mark In A Season With A Brace On The Weekend
Inform Zimbabwe international forward Nyasha Mushekwi continues with his super goal scoring form in the Chinese League One after bagging a brace on Sunday against Nanjing to surpass the 20 goal mark for the second time in his career.
The 34-year-old veteran forward scored consecutively in the 22nd and 29th minutes respectively before Wang Yang’s 42nd minute goal to surge ahead with a 3-0 win in the first half.
Mushekwi was later substituted in the 46th minutes for Franko Adrijasevic, but Zhejiang went on to win 4-1 to maintain pressure on top of the Chinese League One table with 58 points from 26 games, six points behind log leaders Meizhou Hakka who are on 64 points from as much games.
Mushekwi’s brace takes his tally to 21 goals in 26 matches, maintaining his four goal lead in the race for the golden boot award. Nigeria’s Chisom Egbuchulam is now second with 17 goals for log leaders Meizhou Hakka.
It is the second time in his career that Mushekwi has surpassed the 20-goal mark in a season after he scored 21 goals for Caps United in 2009 to win the Zimbabwe premier soccer league golden boot award.
In 2015/16, the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward scored 19 goals in his first season with Dalian Yifang to finish the season as the second best scorer in the Chinese League One behind Brazilian Luis Fabiano who won the golden boot with 22 goals for Tianjin Quanjin.
Mushekwi ‘s goal scoring form continued in the following season bagging 16 goals to become the club’ s best scorer of the season and help the team to Chinese Super League promotion.
In 2018, he rose again to become the club’s best scorer with 15 goals in their debut season in the Chinese Super League after initially left out of the squad in favor of newly signed global stars of Marek Hamsik, Nicholas Gaitan and Yannick Carrasco.
The Zimbabwean forward also spent three seasons at Sundowns, scoring a total of 28 goals in the league. He also had spells at Belgium’s KV Oostende and Djurgardens IF of Sweden before joining the big trek to the far East.
He is one of the best international strikers Zimbabwe have at the moment, albeit his age.
