Bonne Reacts After Captaining Ipswich Town For The First Time
Zimbabwe Warriors prospective forward Macauley Bonne has expressed his delight after given the captain’s armband in Ipswich Town’s 1-all draw to Sheffield United on Saturday.
The 25-year-old England-born forward who was given the captain armband in the absence of Lee Evans who suffered an injury, said that he is very proud for having led a club, which he considers as his “own”.
“I am honoured to captain my boyhood and club I have supported my whole life (it) means a lot to me and my family,” wrote Bonne on his Instagram page after the game.
The Zimbabwean must have felt 10 feet tall leading out the team he grew up passionately supporting as he took it upon himself to ensure the team walked away with at least a point from the game.
And while he may have spurned some golden opportunities to add to his five-goal tally in this match, it was his piece of cheeky play that enabled Town to rescue a point at the death after robbing the ball that led to the team’s equalizer.
Just like his nickname in Zimbabwe ‘Shumba’ the lion. Bonne lurked closer behind the unaware Sheffield United goalie, Peacock Farrell as he was about to dispatch a goal kick. Bonne stayed in the blind spot as Peacock Farrell rolled the ball on the ground to waste a few more seconds, Bonne pounced immediately, stealing ball possession from the goalie before sending a back pass to Scott Fraser who teed up Chaplin for the team’s equliser.
Macauley Bonne is making the Ipswich Town striking spot his own following a superb start to the League One season
He has five league goals to his name in only six appearances this season.
