Mapeza Appointed Warriors Interim Coach
Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa), has finally resolved to appoint FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza as Warriors Interim coach on a three month deal.
The FC Platinum boss who will continue his duties at the Zvishavane based club will be assisted by Triangle coach Taurai Magwiro and Highlanders’ Mandla Mpofu with Energy Murambadoro coming in as goalkeeper coach.
It is Mapeza’s fifth stint as Warriors coach having first appointed caretaker coach in 2007 and returned again in 2010 in the same capacity before appointed subsistant coach from 2011 to 2012. He had another brief as caretaker coach in 2017.
The former Galatasaray midfielder’s main focus will be the back to back World cup qualifiers against Ghana early October where the Warriors need to pick up at least four points from the two matches if they are to keep their hopes alive of qualifying to the Fifa world cup for the first time.
Zimbabwe Warriors are anchoring group G with a point from two matches. South Africa tops the group with four points followed by Ghana and Ethiopia on second and third spot both on three points.
