Mighty Warriors PREPS For 2021 COSAFA Championship

Zimbabwe Senior Woman’s football team, the Mighty Warriors Are In Camp Ahead Of The 2021 COSAFA Woman Championship at Nelson Mandaela Bay, South Africa from September 28- October 9.

Coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda whose squad last played competitive football in 2020 at the same competition, has included eight Black Rhinos Queens players in her preliminary squad.

The players include captain Rutendo Makore who was named best player of the tournament and Precious Mudyiwa who walked away with the golden glove after named best goalkeeper at the recent CAF Woman’s Champions League in South Africa, where they finished as runners up.

Mighty Warriors are in Group B Along side Botswana, guest nations, Tanzania & South Sudan.

The top team in each pool and the best runner-up advance to the semi-finals.

Coach Kwinji 15 will also be hoping to use the tournament to prepare for next month’s 2022 Women’s Africa cup of nations qualifiers.

The Mighty Warriors will open their group matches against Tanzania on the 29th of September followed by South Sudan on the 2nd of October before finishing off against Botswana on the 4th of October.

They have won the competition only once since its inception in 2002.

Mighty Warriors preliminary squad:

Goalkeepers: Precious Mudyiwa (Black Rhinos Queens), Cynthia Shonga (Harare City), Lindiwe Magwede (Herentals), Leona Bhunu (Hearts of Oak), Chido Dzingirai (Correctional Queens)

Defenders: Nobukhosi Ncube (Correctional Queens), Sheila Makoto, Edeline Mutumbami (both Blue Swallows), Egness Tumbare, Moreblessing Bwenende (both Harare City), Talent Mukwanda, Tabeth Mutinhiri (both Herentals), Purity Mugayi, Eunice Chibanda (both Black Rhinos Queens).

Midfielders: Mavis Chirandu, Daisy Kaitano, Christabel Katona (all Black Rhinos Queens), Marjory Nyaumwe, Berita Kabwe (Correctional Queens), Emmaculate Msipa (Unattached), Alice Moyo, Shyline Dambamuromo (both Faith Drive), Ennert Chemhere (Ubuntu)

Strikers: Natasha Ndowa (Blue Swallows), Priviledge Mupeti, Rutendo Makore (both Black Rhinos Queens), Rudo Neshamba (Harare City), Maud Mafuruse (Faith Drive), Dinarose Banda (Queen Lozikeyi).
