Munetsi Handed New Role At Reims
Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Nyasha Marshall Munetsi is reinventing himself into a utility player at Stade De Reims after featuring in an unorthodox center back position in the team’s 1-1 draw at home to RC Lens on Saturday.
The 24-year-old former Orlando Pirates midfielder who has been linked with a move away from Reims in search for regular game time, was reportedly on the verge of joining Wayne Rooney’s Derby County side on a loan deal, but the Zimbabwean opted to remain at Reims and fight for a starting position.
After missing in the previous four league matches, Munetsi returned to the starting eleven on Saturday 13 February, this time deployed in an unfamiliar center back position partnering Wout Faes.
Munetsi enjoyed some eye-catching performances on his new role, playing full 90 minutes, made ten clearances, blocked three shots, two Interceptions, one tackle and had 87% pass accuracy rate as the team draw 1-1 against Lens.
The Zimbabwean relished the center back role so well that if he continues to impress in that role, it could give coach David Guion more options to get him into the first eleven.
Out of the team’s 25 league games played so far this season, the Mabvuku born star has featured in 17 matches and has made 12 starts with only a goal to his name.
