Nyasha Mushekwi Arguably The Most Prolific Striker For Zimbabwe At The Moment

Zimbabwe Warriors veteran striker Nyasha Mushekwi is doing wonders at Chinese league one side Yunnan Yukun and has taken the newly promoted side to the top of the log and are on course for their first ever Chinese Super league promotion having scored the most goals and has been leading the golden boot race for months with goals in almost every match he played.

The 37-year-old former Dalian Professional and Zhejiang forward is currently the league’s top goal scorer with 18 goals after 21 matches. His latest strike came in on Sunday’s 0-4 win against Wux-Wugou were he scored a brace and assist.

Mushekwi has failed to score in three games in the last 10 matches for Yunnan Yukun but has had a total of 11 goal contribution in those matches making him Yunani Yakun’s best player and perhaps Chinese league one football’s best player so far. He now has a total goal contribution of 21 goals in 21 matches. Insane!

Yukun lead the log standings with 50 points from 21 matches having drawn five and losing just once all season. They have scored 50 goals so far in the league with the former Mamelodi Sundowns star contributing the biggest share of 18 goals thus 36 percent of the team’s goals so far.

Though Mushekwi is now being overlooked for national team duty due to his age, no other Zimbabwean striker currently has an individual impact on their teams like Mushekwi is having at Yunnan Yukun.

Below we take a look at the performance of those strikers that were called-up to do duty in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon on the 6th and 10th of September respectively, to see how they compare to Mushekwi’s numbers so far.

Prince Dube is the second best striker for Zimbabwe at the moment according to current form. The former Azam forward who’s now at Young Africans has scored 4 goals in six matches for Yanga in all competitions so far. His goals has helped Yanga win their first silverware this season and progressed to the second round of the CAF Champions league after defeating Vital’O in the first round.

Tinotenda Kadewere seems to have a turn of fortune in front of goals this season after scoring his first goal in a while in FC Nantes’ preseason matches before registering two assists in Nantes’ 3-0 win against Montpellier over the weekend. The 27-year-old former Lyon striker has a total goal contribution of 2 goals in three Ligue 1 matches so far. He is the third best striker for Zimbabwe at the moment.

Obriel Chirinda got off to a flying start for Ngezi Platinum after a contractual battle involving Dynamos scoring three goals in his first three matches for the PSL Champions. The 27-year-old inform Chirinda is currently on five goals in 10 matches. Ngezi had lost three times won five times and drawn six matches before Chirinda joined the team. Ngezi have gone on to win five matches so far, drawn five and are still to lose a Psl game with Chirinda in the team. He has been a clutch player for Ngezi Platinum so far.

Douglas Mapfumo has been blowing hot and cold at Polokwane City in the South African Premier league this season, The 24-year-old former Douglas Warriors player has bagged in three goals and two assists for City this season, totallying to a five goals contribution in 21 appearances for City this season.
