Msendami Could Have Found His Natural Habitat In The Dstv Premiership

After offers from as far as TP Mazembe (DRC), Simba SC (Tanzania), and APR (Rwanda)  Msendami on Monday signed a long-term contract with South Africa’s Marumo Gallants who will be participating in the South African top flight league this season after buying Moroka Swallows’ franchise.

The 24-year-old fast paced winger had an outstanding 2023/24 campaign with Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, scoring 12 goals and providing 16 assists in all competitions as the club successfully defended their league title, won the Orange FA Cup and reached the group stages of the CAF Champions league.

Msendami’s stock has risen significantly, and unsurprisingly ever since he was send on loan to division one side Vumbachikwe in 2019 after failing to make the grade in Brito Baltemar’s Highlanders first team.

The former Bosso 90 youngster who was elevated to the first team by veteran coach Madinda Ndlovu in 2018 before returned back to the development side after Madinda left, went on to take the Botswana premier league by storm scoring seven goals and eleven assists in his debut season with Jwaneng Galaxy- including a memorable CAF Champions league goal against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates that helped his side qualify to the group stages of the competition.

However, having won two league titles and took Galaxy to the group stages of the CAF Champions league, Msendami has proven himself in the Botswana premier league. He has now become a big fish in a small pond, so to speak.

His exploits with Jwaneng Galaxy set him on the radar of several high profile clubs including South Africa’s Supersport United and Cape Town Spurs just to name but a few. The right moment to test his budding talent somewhere else has arrived and Marumo Gallants proved the ideal place.

While the Dstv Premiership is one of the fast-paced environments in African football that could bring Msendami’s potential to great effect, an emerging club with big ambitions like Marumo Gallants could become the new Warriors winger’s fortress.

In terms of the quality of football and pedigree of players, Tanzania, DRC and Rwanda premier leagues are there—but the Dstv premiership provides better exposure and good remuneration to help support the financial stability of clubs.

Noone from the other three leagues that were chasing Msendami’s services can equal the competitiveness and widespread exposure that the South African top flight league brings through broadcast partnership and media rights.

Above all, South Africa’s Dstv premiership remains the highest ranked league from all the three leagues in contention.

According to teamform.com, South Africa – PSL is on position six in Africa, Congo DR Super league is ranked 13th, while Tanzania Ligi kuu Bara is ranked 25th and Rwanda national soccer league on 29th position. Zimbabwe premier soccer league is on 31st position in Africa.

So the move to Marumo Gallants where Msendami is guaranteed regular game time to prove himself against high quality players is exactly the kind of environment in which the player dubbed as the next Khama Billiat would fancy at this moment in his career.
