Mahovo Earmarked For First Team Role At Norwich City
Former Notts County young defender Lucian Mahovo, could feature in the Championship with Norwich City first team as soon as was expected after joining the club on a two year deal plus option to renew on Monday 8th July.
The 19-year-old who made a surprise leap from Sky Bet League Two to Championship football, has been long targeted to reinforce the Canaries left-back position which has been left frigile after the departure of Dimi Giannoulis and Sam McCallum.
City has made it a top transfer priority this summer to hire a left-back and they have been strongly linked to Danish defender Martin Frese but has reported interest from Legia Warsaw, Parma and clubs in Japan.
There also has been speculation in the Brazilian media of a loan enquiry for Palmeiras’ Vanderlan to fill up the vacant position but have come to settle for Mahovo whom they believe has a profile that could go on to lead the club’s defensive ranks for the future.
The talented left-back who can also play elsewhere across the defensive line or as a defensive midfielder, made two first-team appearances for Notts County, featuring in League Two and the EFL Trophy.
He has had previous loan spells at non-league sides Boston United and Long Eaton, and spent time at Sheffield United’s youth set-up before moving to Notts County.
Upon signing for the Canaries, Mahovo spoke to the club’s official channels: “It’s a great club, with brilliant facilities. I’m excited to get ready and get going.
“I love to get on the ball as much as I can and influence the game. I’ve learnt a lot of valuable lessons when going out on loan (playing senior football) and I’m ready to apply them here.”
The youngster who has a Zimbabwean heritage having born to an English mother and a Zimbabwean father, will initially link up with the Canaries’ under-21 side, having spent the back end of last season on loan in the sixth tier with Boston United.
For now Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup is expected to run the rule over his current roster in pre-season, with development squad attacking left back Guilherme Montóia set for game time in the upcoming friendlies before the opening of the Championship league season.
