Munetsi Recognized Among Five Global Player Council Achievers Of The Year

Fifpro global player council has noted Nyasha Marshall Munetsi as one of the five global player council Achievers of the year for his role he played in bringing Zimbabwe back to international football after a year of suspension due to government interference.

The Stade de Reims midfielder was recognized among, Australian midfielder Jackson Irvine, former Colombian center-back Isabella Echeverri, Japanese and LA Galaxy defender Maya Yoshinda and Netherlands and Atletico Madrid defender Merel Van Dongen for bringing about positive changes to football since the relaunch of the council a year ago.

According to FIFPRO website, Munetsi used his voice to consistently highlight how FIFA’s suspension of Zimbabwe was having a negative effect on the country – and the Reims midfielder engaged in constructive dialogue that helped Zimbabwe become reinstated.

The Mabvuku-born star and members of Zimbabwe’s player union met with representatives from FIFA at FIFPRO House in Amsterdam, Netherlands in March 2023 to discuss the issue.

FUZ President Desmond Maringwa, national team players Nyasha Marshall Munetsi and Nyasha Mushekwi including Mighty Warriors captain Rudo Neshamba were part of the delegation that was involved in getting CAF and FIFA to have a clear view of Zimbabwe’s situation.

Four months later after the meetings, Zimbabwe’s ban from international football was lifted.

The ban had severe negative effects on the country especially the payers who were not able to get involved in any international football matters during the time of the suspension.

The Stade de Reims midfielder is part of a 35-member global player council currently sit on the council, including Lucy Bronze, Giorgio Chiellini, Saki Kumagai, Andre Onana, Nicolas Tagliafico, and Arturo Vidal to name but a few.
