Warriors Crash Out After Malawi Humiliation

Zimbabwe warriors were sent crashing out of the 2021 Africa Cup of nations after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of fellow COSAFA counterparts, Malawi on Friday.

The Warriors who everyone thought had an easy passage after thrown in a relatively easy group compared to their previous appearances, once again failed to break the jinx as they let a one goal lead to suffer a 2-1 loss to the Flames of Malawi in what will go down as one of the most heartbreaking defeat in the team’s history.

Zimbabwe had taken the lead in the thirty ninth minute when Ishmael Wadi after missing several chances, finally got it right heading home from an Onismor Bhasera cross to lead one nil.

However, just before finishing their celebrations, Malawi equalised through Gabadhino Mhango, who lashed the goal past Petros Mhari in a quick counter attack to level the scores.

It went from bad to worse for the Warriors in the second half when Mhango again capitalized on Warriors defensive mix up to score Malawi’s second goal in the 58th minute.

After The Flames second goal, the Warriors looked dejected and hopeless. Mhango’s second goal took them unaware and they failed to recover from it.

For much of the second half the Warriors were uninspired and, despite huffing and puffing and the late introduction of the lively Jordan Zemura, Admiral Muskwe and Kuda Mahachi, the Warriors failed to hurt the Flames and it ended 1-0.

The Warriors will play their last encounter against Guinea on the 18th of January in Yaounde before they return back home.
