Zemura Out Of Warriors’ AFCON Opener
Zimbabwe Warriors have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their opening encounter against Senegal on Monday with the news of Bournemouth rising star Jordan Zemura missing out in the encounter due to Covid-19 outbreak at his club earlier.
The 23-year-old attacking left-back who is one of Zimbabwe Warriors’ players to watch at the tournament remains holed up at his base ahead of Zimbabwe’s opener against Senegal on the 10th of January.
Zemura has been in self-Isolation since the news of the outbreak broke out at the club last weekend and could be back this weekend to join the Warriors.
Cherries’ were forced to postpone this week’s league fixture against Peterborough United due to a Corona virus outbreak among their squad.
No individual players have been named by the club as positive cases, due to confidentiality reasons.
Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare confirmed that the left-back would be expected in camp on Monday or Tuesday.
“He is still in the UK, and would wait for his PCR tests results on Saturday (today) or Sunday before he joins the team. He is then expected in camp on Monday or Tuesday,” said Mpandare
Zimbabwe will play Malawi in their second group match at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam on the 14th of January before taking on Guinea in Yaounde on the 18th of January to complete group B matches.
Meanwhile, the tournament kicks-off on Sunday with the host Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso in Group A followed by Ethiopia vs Cape Verde.
