Another Zim Teen Star Signs Pro Contract With An English Premier League Side

Another Zimbabwe teenage star Isaac Mabaya is set to break into the English Premier League after signing his first professional contract with Liverpool FC.

The 17-year-old Preston-born midfielder cum defender who is groomed in Trent Alexander Arnold’s footsteps has been with Liverpool Academy since the age of six.

The club confirmed the news on their website.

Mabaya broke into the U18s team last season as a 16-year-old and was initially deployed as a wide midfielder.

A switch mid-season saw him move to full-back, where his ability to sweep forward as an attacking option has been impressive, and he has played at right-back for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18s this term.

Mabaya has also featured for England junior teams having been capped at U15 and U16 levels, but is also eligible for Zimbabwe Warriors through his parents.

The Mabayas who hail from Mutare, relocated to the UK in 2000 after residing in Bulawayo, where Isaac’s father worked as a pharmacist.

The highly rated Mabaya becomes the latest Zimbabwe teenage star to sign pro contract with an English Premier League Side this season after Jimiel Chikukwa (18) who signed with Watford last week.
