Morocco National Team Evacuated After Coup In Guinea
Morocco’s national team was escorted out of Conakry, where they were scheduled to play second round World Cup qualifier on Monday against Guinea, after an apparent coup took place in the West African country.
The Moroccan squad who had arrived in Guinea on Saturday, endured hours of gunshots and uncertainty in Conakry before they were finally given an escort to the airport, from the hotel they were holed up in.
The Moroccan squad included two Fiorentina players in the team as well, Sofyan Amrabat and Youssef Maleh.
Guinea’s borders were forced to close after an armed group staged a coup, suspended the constitution, and took the President hostage.
Due to the current volatile situation in the country FIFA and CAF have decided to postpone the Guinea Vs Morocco encounter to a later date to be announced in due course.
