Warriors Get Ready To Tame The Walias In A Must Win Encounter
Zimbabwe Warriors are getting ready to face the Walias of Ethiopia after arriving safely in Bahr Dar, the host city for their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers second group G encounter on Tuesday.
The Warriors who are scheduled to have their first training session this morning after traveling some 492km from the capital Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar on the northern side of the country, will be aiming for nothing, but a win against the Walias Ibex.
Reeling from a dull draw against an inexperienced Bafana Bafana squad in their opening group G match, the Warriors need to up their tempo to keep their hopes alive of qualifying to the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.
Although they still have five more games to play in the group stages, but dropping two points at home against an average team in the group is always a mistake you bound to live to regret.
However, the Warriors will once again look up to Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat’s brilliance to inspire a win in Ethiopia.
Tinotenda Kadewere has since been ruled out because of injury and the inform Terrence Dzvukamanja is expected to lead the line in the absence of Lyon striker.
On the other hand, Ethiopia who conducted their first training session at the match venue on Sunday after arriving from Ghana, looks dangerous and were very impressive in their opening group G match on Friday and were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to west African giants.
Both teams will be looking for maximum points to gain pole-position in group G where Ghana is currently leading the pack after a win against Ethiopia. They are scheduled to play Bafana Bafana in South Africa on Tuesday.
The ten second round group winners play home-and-away over two legs. The five winners will take up Africa’s five slots at the World Cup.
The Ethiopian Football Federations have asked for CAF to allow 20,000 fans in Bahir Dar stadium on Tuesday. But are still waiting on CAF to respond to their request.
This is the first time Zimbabwe are playing Ethiopia since November 13, 1988 when the Warriors won 2-1 in a Cecafa Cup first round match.
