Arubi Wins Nedbank Cup Player Of The Tournament Award

Former Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi was voted the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament on Sunday, beating teammate Ndabayithethwa Ndlodlo and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Peter Shaulile for the award.

The 35-year-old former Zimbabwe Warriors goalkeeper walked away with the R150 000 prize money.

Arubi finished the tournament with four clean sheets in five games after he led Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivandila to their first Nedbank cup victory.

He was the only Zimbabwean player out of a pool of 18 players to grace the South African Premiership awards podium in a pre-recorded PSL Awards ceremony, which were held virtually, for the 2020/21 season on Sunday night.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Namibian forward Peter Shaulile was the big winner after scooping the Player of the season and Players Player awards.

Benni McCarthy was voted coach of the season after guiding Amazulu to a second place finish.

Arubi becomes the second Zimbabwean player to win the Nedbank cup player of the tournament award after former Mamelodi Sundowns hitman Nyasha Mushekwi who won it in 2012.
