David Movilla Explained Reasons For Deploying Mapisa As A Striker In Last Sunday’s Game
Zamora CF coach David Movilla surprised everyone this past Sunday after bringing on goalkeeper Martin Mapisa as a substitute to take up the striking position in their 3-2 win against Cultural Leonesa.
The 22-year-old Warriors goalkeeper was introduced in the 87th minutes in a double substitution that saw Movilla taking out the two goal scorers, Daniel Hernandez Gonzalez and Agustin Coscia for Mapisa and Luis Meseguer respectively as he seemed to look for fresh legs to maintain the team’s 3-2 win.
The coach’s gumble however, seemed to have payed off as Mapisa did well in ariel game duels to maintain the scoreboard, much to the delight and appraisal of his teammates.
According to the club website, Movilla who had already tried Mapisa as an infield player in training and in some pre-season friendly games, said he chose to deploy Mapisa as a forward due to number of injuries in his squad.
“Things have to be argued based on need not on the sake of merely arguing, nothing is done here for the ‘show’, everything is done to manage the resources that i have,” said Movilla on the club website
“In the team we are obviously with many injuries, and well we know about Mapi’s capabilities. Already in a friendly against Cáceres he played a few minutes, in some training we have put him there, he is a player with many abilities and with the capacity to have a go there.
“We lacked legs to keep pushing up, Mapi has them, in the air game he has also helped us.
“What we always do here is put individual resources at the service of the team and, once again, Mapi, like the others, have put everything they have at the service of the team,” he said
“All I do is enjoy what they do, because regardless of the result, I really enjoy what this team transmits, which goes far beyond winning or losing,” Movilla said.
With the win Zamora managed to move fifth place on the log, tied on points with Celta B and Cultural, to achieve the pass to the Play Off for promotion to Segunda A.
They will play Burgos on Sunday in their next promotional play off encounter.
