Baka Set For A Giant Leap In Spain

Spain-based Zimbabwe Under 23 midfielder Abubakar Moffat is set for a huge progress in his career after invited for a 10 day trial by high flying Tercera Division side, Deportivo Ciudad de Lucena.

The 23-year-old former Aces Academy player reportedly caught the attention of CD Ciudad after some eye-catching performances for FC Malaga where he featured in nine games, providing an incredible eight assists and three goals in the season.

According to FC Malaga website, the highly rated midfielder has already begun a 10 day trial with the ambitious Tercera Division side- which is the fourth tier in Spanish football league system.

“We’re really pleased to see Baka go on trial with an ambitious Tercera División club in CD Ciudad de Lucena,” Academy Director George Jermy told the website.

“Baka is an incredible player with a massive potential, who has earned this opportunity through an impressive season – so we hope he can take it with both hands.

“He is an amazing person and a great character – who has always ever shown an outstanding attitude to his football.

“As an academy, we’re really proud of the progress that Baka has made – and are excited too see what his future holds,” said Jermy.

Baka joined FC Malaga City Academy in 2018 from Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) in Zimbabwe.

After an impressive season with CD Almuñecar City, the midfielder was signed by Tercera División side Velez CF – where he was a regular throughout the 2019/20 campaign.

He then returned to FC Malaga City at the beginning of this season, representing the Senior team who compete in Primera Andaluza (Málaga) featuring in a number of high-profile showcase games against the likes of Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla CF, Granada CF, Malaga CF amongst others.

If everything goes well, Moffat will become the second Zimbabwean and AYSA Academy product to move up Spanish football ranks from the lower divisions, after goalkeeper Martin Mapisa, who is now with Zamora Cf.

Deportivo Ciudad de Lucena are currently in race for promotion to Segunda División B (Spanish third tier) as they are sitting on top of Tercera División Group 10 table with 36pts from 17 Games.
