Zim-Born Nydam Back For Ipswich Town After A Long Term Injury

Highly rated Zimbabwe born midfielder Tristan Nydam marked his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after starting in Ipswich Town U23’s 1-all draw against QPR on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old midfielder played 52 minutes for Town U23s before making way for Ross Crane as they were held to a 1-1 draw by QPR in the Professional Development League.

It was Nydam’s first competitive game in more than a year and a half after breaking his ankle and damaging his ligaments during a pre-season game at Notts County in 2019.

Nydam who can operate in midfield or at full-back was born in Harare and relocated to England with his family when he was only 10 years old.

He progressed through the Ipswich Town Academy, and signed his first two-year professional contract with the club in November 2016 before making his full senior debut on August 8, 2017 in the first round of the English League Cup.

The Zimbabwean born rising star reportedly attracted interest from English Premier League giants Arsenal after putting in a string of impressive displays for Ipswich Town.

He has played 21 times for the English League One side in 2019 and was enjoying a meterioric rise before his injury.

Nydam is eligible to play for both England and Zimbabwe Warriors, having been capped for the England U18s and U19s squad.

Although several approaches have been made in the past to try and convince him to change his allegiance and commit to the Warriors without success, the midfielder still have chance to decide on his international future.
