Australia Based Forward Eager To Play For Mighty Warriors

Zimbabwe international and Casuarina F. C forward Yolanda Kanyai has expressed her desire to represent Mighty Warriors on the international scene, Soca263 reports.

Kanyai, 24, a former Vainona High School ladies soccer team captain, has been in fantastic form for Casuarina in the Australia NorZone Premier League (Women’s Premier League in the Northern Territory) where she has become the main striker after scooping two golden boot awards in her first two season with the club.

Kanyai, who once represented Harare Province as a basketball player in 2011, made a switch to soccer after she enrolled at Vainona High in 2014 and has been enjoying it ever since.

“Vainona High school was well dominant in girls soccer than basketball or any other sport,” Kanyai said.

“Being myself an “outgoing/multi talented person” I had no problem in adjusting. I play almost every ball sport so it wasn’t hard for me to switch to soccer as I already had an interest in it so I ended up spending more time on the soccer field than at the courts. I was captain at Vainona High in 2014,” she said.

Kanyai moved to Australia in 2016 on a soccer scholarship and has been in the books of Casuarina F. C where she has won two golden boot awards in her first two seasons with the club before suffering a huge set back.

She spend the rest of 2018/19 season on the sidelines due to an injury, but has since recovered and she is slowly getting back to her best form again.

She scored 5 goals in 15 league games for Casuarina reserves last season before the league was prematurely ended due to Covid-19.

She is now back training with the first team and has expressed desire to play for the Zimbabwe Mighty Warriors team in the near future.

“It is every player’s dream to represent their country and it will be an honor if I get a chance to be selected,” Kanyai said.

She is currently preparing for the new season with the team which begins in April.

Casuarine F. C are based in Darwin, the Northern Territory of Australia and compete in the NorZone Premier League which is one of three top tier state-level soccer competition in the Territory.
