Shumaira Mheuka began his career at Chelsea on a good note after impressing at 2022 Euro Youth Cup tournament hosted in Germany over the weekend – where he was awarded with the ‘Striker of the tournament’ award after emerging as the top scorer.
The 14-year-old fast paced forward who joined Chelsea in July from Brighton Hove Albion, scored four goals in the tournament to win the striker of the tournament award.
Mheuka, who three days ago was in Italy with England U16s, grabbed his first goal of the tournament in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Union Berlin before bagging his second in 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on the 27th of August as the team went on to reach the semi-finals along with FC Bayern, Benfica and GNK Dinamo.
Chelsea ended up finishing third after a narrow 1-0 semi-final defeat to Benfica, before Mheuka scored both goals in 2-1 third place playoff win against Bayern to complete his four goals.
Bayern Munich’s Jussef Nasrawe won Player of the Tournement award for the Euro Youth Cup U16, which also featured Dinamo Zagreb and Juventus Turin – with the former winning the tournament after beating Benfica in the finals. Bayern finished 4th with a lot of momentum against them.
Having born in England to Zimbabwean parents, the highly rated forward is also eligible to play for the Warriors despite representing the Three lions at youth level.
