In The Absence Of Teenage Hadebe, Isheanesu Mauchi Could Earn His Warriors Debut

Simba Bhora’s rising defender Isheanesu Mauchi has received his first call-up to the senior men’s national team. This recognition comes on the heels of an impressive season with Simba Bhora, where Mauchi has established himself as a key player in the squad. His selection marks a shift in the national team’s strategy, as veteran defender Teenage Hadebe has excused himself for selection due to personal issues.

Mauchi a former national team volleyball player was brought to Simba Bhora by Tonderai Ndiraya in 2023 having risen through various youth clubs in Spain where he made short stints before coming back to Zimbabwe.

The 22-year-old center-back was instrumental for Simba Bhora who made history last season by going all out to win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in their second season in the top-flight league.

Mauchi’s performance last season has been nothing short of remarkable. He has been instrumental in Simba Bhora’s defensive line, contributing not only with his tackling and aerial ability but also with his composure on the ball.

He has consistently ranked among the top defenders in the league. Despite his young age, he has demonstrated leadership on the pitch, often organizing the backline and communicating effectively with teammates.

The call-up to the national team is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He once represented the Zimbabwe B squad in the Cosafa Cup 2024.

The unavailability of Teenage Hadebe, a seasoned player with international experience, gave Mauchi the chance to be part of the squad, and he is looking forward to giving his all if he is selected to play.

“I’ve been praying to be ready to make the most of the opportunity when it comes,” Mauchi said.

“I’m hoping to play my best football, as I have been doing for the past season if I am called to play.

Mauchi is confident the Warriors still have a chance to save their World Cup hopes despite anchoring the group with only two points from four matches.

“I still believe there is still a chance for us to qualify considering the games played so far and the quality we have in the team.”

Hadebe’s excuse as he regularizes his stay in the United States of America has opted for Nees to consider fresh legs and new energy to cover for the experienced defender. Peter Muduwa is also in contention for the center-back position.
