Mahovo Rewarded With A Contract Extension At Norwich

Zimbabwe Warriors prospective defender Lucien Mahovo has been granted a new three-year contract just a few months after joining Norwich City from Notts County. The deal contains a club option for an extra year, marking a swift and promising start for Mahovo at the new Sky Bet Championship side.

The 19-year-old who is predominantly a left-back but can also play elsewhere across the defensive line or as a defensive midfielder, joined the Canaries in July last year on a two-year deal and has played an important role in the Under-21s team this season.

Mahovo also had the opportunity to train with the City’s first team during pre-season and appeared in the matchday squad for the Sky Bet Championship games against Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Bristol City in November, as well as most recently in the FA Cup match against Brighton although he is still to make his first team debut.

After signing his new contract the England-born young defender expressed delightfulness, “It’s a great feeling for me. It’s nice to be rewarded and it’s just giving me more motivation to kick on.

“I think I have settled in very well. All the people at the club, around the first team and the Under-21s, are all great. They’ve helped me to settle in and be a good player,” added Mahovo.

Norwich City Sporting Director Ben Knapper also expressed joy after pinning Mahovo to a long-term contract

“He has made significant strides since his arrival in the summer and he is someone that we feel has great potential going forward. He has a very well-rounded skill set and his capability to absorb and implement information and feedback is a real strength.”

Mahovo has so far played seven of the ten matches that the Under-21s have played so far and has contributed with an assist in the process. Though he is also eligible to play for England at the international level, the young defender is keen to play for Zimbabwe.
