Notts County Handed Another English Zimbabwean Teen Chance To Earn Pro Contract

English National League side Notts County have awarded another English Zimbabwean and under-19 star Lucien Chihovo an opportunity to become part of the senior team after included in the team’s pre-season training.

The 17-year-old midfieder and former Sheffield United academy player, who is born to a Zimbabwean father and a British mother, has already featured twice for Notts County during the preseason training.

Chihovo, just like Liverpool’s Isaac Mabaya – is being transitioned from the midfield to a forward thinking wing-back and was outstanding in his first team debut, winning 2-0 against Alfreton before earning himself a first team start in 2-3 win against Cambridge united on Saturday.

Chihovo is aiming to impress new senior head coach Luke Williams and follow in the footsteps of under-19 teammate and former Zimbabwe under-17 star Luther Munakandafa (18) who has already transitioned to the senior environment full time and is in the orientation stage of his development where he now looks to find his role in the first team and understand the requirements of senior competition after penning his first professional contract with the club in June.

Munakandafa impressed for the under-19s and has been a regular feature in the first team throughout the 2021-22 campaign.

He is also part of the team’s preparations ahead of the new campaign alongside Zimbabwe Warriors left-back Adam Chicksen who recently extended his stay at the English national league side.

They are scheduled to play Boston United on Wednesday before hosting newly promoted premier league side Nottingham Forest on Tuesday 26, July.

They will wrap up their pre-season matches with an away date to York City before the season opens on the 6th of August 2022.
