Golden Arrows Posture For Tembo’s Services
Lamontiville Golden Arrows are said to be ‘highly interested’ in bringing former Supersport United coach Kaitano Tembo to Durban after the club parted ways with Lehlolonolo Seema.
Rumors has it that Arrows are preparing to open discussions with Tembo who parted ways with Supersport United on Tuesday regarding the vacancy at Arrows.
Golden Arrows announced the dismissal of Lesotho international Lehlolonolo Seema on Wednesday after a string of poor results and are looking to appoint a new coach ahead of the next season.
Assistant coaches Mabhuti Khanyeza and Vusumuzi Vilakazi are expected to steer the ship until the end of the season.
A run of 12 games where Arrows have won three matches, drawn four and lost five proved fatal for Seema’s Arrows career with Tuesday’s 6-0 drubbing at Sundowns the final straw.
According to rumors reaching Soca263 , Arrows CEO Mato Madlala who is also acting PSL chairperson is believed to have been impressed by what Tembo achieved at Supersport United and wants him to replicate that at Abafana Bes’thende, as her club is popularly known.
“She is a business minded woman who uses some of her business skills to run the club successfully,” said a close source.
The club has been without a sponsor for more than five years. In 2019, she said sponsors only come in to benefit from the franchise while the club gains a fraction from the partnership. Her club does not need that kind of arrangement as she can handle the responsibility.
“Arrows survive through her business skills and she believes a club does not have to have huge money to compete successful, but the purpose must be clear from the onset.
Her business model shuns away from buying high-cost players and encourages development of own players which is Tembo’s specialty.”
The former Supersport United coach is credited for drafting young players from the club’s academy into the first team after the team sold many of its big star players including Dean Furman, Audrey Modiba, Clayton Daniels, Bongani Khumalo, Teboho Mokoena and Evans Rusike, but managed to stay competitive in the league finishing on fifth place in his first two seasons as head coach.
Golden Arrows enjoyed a fourth finish last season under Mandla Ncikazi, but are currently languishing on 9th place with 31 points from 24 games.
“Ms Madlala believes Tembo has the pedigree to transform Golden Arrows to its best potential in a much more cost effective manner,” said the source.
Tembo is open to new opportunities and is eager to continue in a different environment.
“I want to see things out there and do things differently in a different environment,” Tembo told Marawa Sports Show.
“I’ve been with SuperSport for long and worked with many coaches with different personalities and methodologies. “
“I think a new environment will do wonders for me,” said Tembo.
However, the former Supersport United mentor is not the only potential candidate for the Arrows job- Gordon Igesund, Calvin Johnson and Muhsin Ertugral are some of the good coaches available for the job, but it appears Tembo is the current favorite choice to land the job.
