RIYAD MAHREZ WARY OF ZIMBABWE’S WARRIORS

Leicester city star and Algeria’s Desert Foxes play-maker, Riyad Mahrez has warned his countrymen not to take Zimbabwe lightly, despite their contrasting position in the latest Fifa rankings ahead of their opening Group B encounter on the 15th of January 2017 at Franceville stadium in Gabon.

Algeria are currently ranked number 35 in the latest list of Fifa world rankings and are placed on third position in Africa rankings table.

By contrast, Zimbabwe are far behind- being on 110 position in the world and 34 in Africa, Algeria possess  higher permutations to top the group and proceed to the second round than first opponents, Zimbabwe warriors.

“I have a lot of respect for every team in the group. Zimbabwe have a great team, I haven’t watched a lot of their games but they have a good record in qualifying rounds,” said Mahrez whose brilliant form is the catalyst behind England Champions Leicester City’s success story.

“Teams that are rated underdogs have a great potential of turning games around to their favor and Algeria should not be relaxed,” added Mahrez.

“We have a strong side, we will need to pull together and try to keep clean sheets and score lots of goals,” said the Leicester city champion.
Ironically, The Desert Foxes are also in a difficult group B, in the World Cup qualifying groups with Nigeria, Cameroon and Zambia to contend with.
