Struggling Benyu Finds New Home In Iceland
English-born Zimbabwean midfielder Kundai Benyu has signed for Icelandic second division side Vestri Ísafjördur a week after leaving English National League Side Wealdstone.
The 23-year-old who was once touted as one of Zimbabwe’s brightest prospect in the English football after signing for Scottish giants Celtic from Aldershot Town loan spell in 2017, left Wealdstone after a mutual termination of his contract with the English fifth tier side a week ago.
The former Ipswich Town Academy product has featured in 15 games for Wealdstone before leaving for Iceland.
Benyu has been struggling to establish himself as a regular member at Celtics and was subsequently loaned to Oldham Athletic and later Helsingborg in Sweden without success.
The England-born midfielder last played for Zimbabwe Warriors in 2017 when he made his debut, along with Tendayi Darikwa and Macauley Bonne, during a friendly match against Lesotho and Namibia.
Vestri competes in the Inkasso-deild karla league, which is the second highest professional level in the Icelandic football league system.
They are 7th on the log with 29 points from 20 games.
