Double Delight For Mushekwi After Confirmed The CL1 Golden Boot Winner
Nyasha Mushekwi had a double reason to celebrate this week after being crowned the Golden Boot winner for Chinese League One having finished the season as the league’s top goal scorer.
The 37-year-old veteran striker scored 25 goals in 29 league matches for Yunnan Yukun this season, six goals clear of second-placed Colombian Juan Diego Alegria Arango of Guangzhou FC who scored 18 goals in 26 matches.
Mushekwi was presented with his top goal scorer award having also helped the club to clinch the League One championship trophy and promotion to the Chinese Super League for the first time in 21 years after a stellar performance that earned them 66 points from 30 games and scored 70 goals in their first season in the Chinese second tier.
This is also Mushekwi’s most productive season ever having surpassed his best-scoring season to date.
His previous best was 24 goals which he scored in the 2021/22 season while playing for Zhejiang. Now he has set a new record of 25 goals in a season.
Mushekwi has now scooped the Chinese League One Golden Boot Award for the second time having won it with Zhejiang Green Town in the 2021 season after scoring 24 goals.
This is the third time Mushekwi has helped teams win promotion from Chinese League One, having helped Dalian Yifang in 2017, Zhejiang in 2021, and now Yunnan Yukun.
He is also shortlisted for Chinese League One Best Player of the Year award.
