SA-Based Duo Staking Claim For A Warriors Return

Forgotten South Africa Betway premiership forwards Terrence Dzvukamanja (Supersport United) and Knox Mutizwa (Golden Arrows) are silently staking claim to return to the national team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier doubleheader against Namibia on the 10th and 14th of October 2024.

The duo last appeared in the national team colors during Baltemar Brito’s tenure on November 2023 as Zimbabwe warriors’ take on Rwanda and Nigeria in the 2026 world cup qualifiers. Since then, they have not been included in recent squads due to poor form.

They have missed in nine matches including four nations cup tournament held in Malawi in March, world cup qualifiers against South Africa and Lesotho in June, 2024 Cosafa cup tournament in July and the recent Africa cup of nations qualifier against Kenya and Cameroon.

However, they have kick-started the new season on a high note as both forwards are already off the mark in the first four games of the season at their respective clubs.

Knox Mutizwa who has been commanding a starting position since the beginning of the season at Arrows, testimony to his increased work rate, scored his first goal of the season as Abafana Bes’thende picked up their second win in the league after two games by beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 on the 21st of September 2024. They, however, lost both of their last two games against Magesi and Sekhukhune United but are holding on in the top 5 of the log standings.

Dzvukamanja, who seems to have rejuvenated himself at Supersport United is currently the ‘chief striker’ starting in all four games in the league and has scored a goal in their only win in four games beating TS Galaxy 1-0 on Wednesday 25th September.

If their current form is anything to go by, they will surely have another chance to prove themselves in the national team.

At 30-years of age, they’re both in the prime stage of their careers and still have a lot to offer to the team.

With Michael Nees at the helm, Mutizwa and Dzvukamanja, who have won 22 and 16 caps respectively for the national team, will look to better their performances to capitalise on the new slate provided by the new manager and reclaim their places on the Warriors’ squad.

The Warriors coach is due to announce the squad that will play Namibia in a back-to-back 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group J qualifier on the 10th and 14th of October 2024. Both matches are to be played at Orlando Stadium South Africa.
