Veteran Zimbabwe international and Supersport United left-back Onismor Bhasera was the big winner at Supersport United end of the Season awards after walking away with the club’s player of the season 2021/22 award, the club announced on Monday.
The veteran left-back who was recently appointed captain of the team ahead of the 2022/23 season has had a busy schedule last season featuring in 28 out of 30 league games for Mantsatsantsa apitori. He has been the backbone and playmaker of the team.
The 36-year-old has found the ability to link up play from the defence right through to the midfield and attacking areas with his clinical passing. He was the player with the highest pass completion rate at the club after successfully completed 811 passes more than any other player, according to Laduma Analytics.
Bhasera who recently extended his stay at the club for another season, said he is honored to receive the award.
It is a huge honor for me to receive this award. I’m deeply honored by my superiors and supporters for this recognition of my work,” said Bhasera via his social media pages.
The Zimbabwean has been an exemplary player ever since he joined Supersport United in 2016 after a stinct with Bidvest Wits where he first met with current coach, Gavin Hunt who deservedly named him new captain of the team.
“Bash will be the captain this season. He has the experience, he is a great professional. He is a leader and I think he will take the role on. I think he will take this role well. It’s important for someone to come in and be verbal and keep standards as high as possible, which is not only on the field, but off the field. I am sure Bash will do well. He has my full support. I chose him. It was a democratic vote. It was me,” Hunt told the media at the DStv Premiership launch in Randburg, Johannesburg, after giving the captain armband to Bhasera to replace Ronwen Williams who is now with Mamelodi Sundowns.
