Warriors Team Doctor Provides Update On Mahachi, Mhari Injury Scare
Zimbabwe senior national team doctor, Nicholas Munyonga has provided an update on Kuda Mahachi and Petros Mhari’s injury situation after the two suffered an injury scare in an international friendly against Sudan on Sunday.
Mahachi sustained the injury in an accidental collision with a Sudanese player in the first half and was replaced by Onismor Bhasera, giving the already depleted Warriors squad an injury scare ahead of their opening Africa Cup of nations match against Senegal
FC Platinum goalie and the probable first choice goalkeeper for the Warriors at the tournament, Petros Mhari also limped off against Sudan after complaining of some discomfort.
However, good news for the country from the Warriors team doctor Munyonga is that the duo is expected to be fully fit for the squad ’s opening Group B match against tournament favorites Senegal at the Kouekong Stadium on the 10th of January in Bafoussam.
“It’s nothing serious. It is a thigh contusion that resulted from a collision with an opponent,” said Munyonga on Mahachi speaking to The Herald.
“He should be okay in the next two to three days,” he said.
Mahachi is one of the Warriors’ key players at the tournament- having been at the Africa cup of nations finals two times already and is expected to play a big role.
Goalkeeper Petros Mhari was also advised to take a rest and is expected to recover fully in the next two days.
Meanwhile, France-based forward Tinotenda Kadewere and Scottish-based David Moyo arrived in camp last night.
Skipper Knowledge Musona is scheduled to arrive this evening while England-based Admiral Muskwe is expected on Wednesday.
Bournemouth star Jordan Zemura who was also scheduled to arrive in camp last night, is delayed to join camp due to Covid-19 scare at his club.
The Skybet Championship side was forced to postpone their league match against Peterborough that was scheduled for Monday night due to the virus outbreak at the club.
However, the Cherries have since confirmed their next match against Yeovile in the FA cup on Saturday.
Warriors will begin their campaign on the 10th of January against Senegal.
