Black Stars Set To Announce The Return Of Milovan Rajevac

Zimbabwe Warriors’ next World cup qualifiers group opponents Ghana are set to unveil Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac as the new head coach on Friday at a press conference.

According to reports in Ghana, the 67-year-old Serbian coach who is making a return as Black Stars Coach – has already agreed on a $100 000 signing on fee plus a $30 000 monthly wage deal with the Ghana Football Association.

He will take over from Charles Kwablan Akoonor who was dismissed following the team’s poor start to the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers and will be assisted by former Black Stars winger and Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo together with former Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu.

Although Milovan had a 43% winning rate during his first tenure with the Black Stars winning 12 out of 28 games losing 11 and drawing 5, is still considered one of the most achieving coaches in Black Stars’ past 20-year history having initially managed the squad from 2008 to 2010.

During his tenure, the Serbian took the Black Stars to CHAN finals in 2009 where they lost the finals to host Cote d’voire.

In 2010, Milo as he is affectionately known by Ghanaians soccer faithfuls, reached the quarter finals of the Africa Nations Cup in Angola before going against all odds in the 2010 world cup finals in South Africa where they progressed beyond the group stages and reached the quarter finals only to lose to Uruguay on penalties.

Rajevac is expected to turn the fortunes of the team by qualifying for the World Cup and also winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon 2022.

Soon after his unveiling the Serbian mentor is expected to announce his squad after he already send invitations to players with the help of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey along with other England-based players such as Baba Rahman, Andy Yiadom, Jordan Ayew, and Daniel Amartey are all expected to make up the squad.

The Warriors face the Black Stars of Ghana in back-to-back clashes on Saturday 9 October in Accra before finishing off the tie on the 12th of October in Harare.

Zimbabwe trail log leaders South Africa  by three points, with Ghana and Ethiopia both on three points after two matches.

Meanwhile newly appointed Warriors caretaker coach Norman Mapeza has already picked his men for the encounter and the announcement of the squad is be expected soon.
