Tawanda Maswanhise Staking Claim For A Starting  Berth In Warriors Squad

Rising Scottish-based Zimbabwe Warriors forward Tawanda Maswanhise is staking a strong claim for a starting position in Michael Nees’s Warriors squad.

Having made an incredible four-goal contribution in his last two premier league matches for Motherwell- a brace against Dundee on the 30th of October and a goal-plus assist in yesterday’s 2-1 win over St. Johnstone, Maswanhise is forcing himself into contention for a starting berth ahead of Zimbabwe’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches against Kenya and Cameroon on the 15th and 19th of November respectively.

Michael Nees has so far used Prince Dube, Terrence Dzvukamanja, and more recently Douglas Mapfumo as his preferred start at the number-nine position in his four matches with the Warriors.

Maswanhise has often been used as a second-half substitute in three of Michael Nees’ four matches in charge and could have scored in his previous game against Namibia where he was introduced in the 66th minute for Khama Billiat, but his goal was ruled for offside.

His latest form for Motherwell could be handy if it is replicated in Zimbabwe colors as the team needs to keep scoring more goals to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Afcon finals in Morocco.

However, the decision will lie in Michael Nees’ hands to choose who to start on the day, but Maswanhise has given him a selection headache ahead of the forthcoming fixtures.
