Here Is Our Zimbabwe Foreign Based Team Of The Week
After some time away, we are back again with Zimbabwe Foreign Based Team Of The Week consisting with players that performed well above the rest over the week that ended (from Monday to Sunday).
By public demand- this time around we have increased the number of selected players from five to eleven due to the big number of foreign based players we now have on our disposal.
As always players are selected on performance based statistics they posted over the week, goals, assists, clean sheets, clearances, tackles, shots on target, ball possession etc are some of the factors that are incooperated to come up with the best eleven of the week.
Without further ado let’s jump right away into our Team of The Week
Goalkeeper – Elvis Chipezeze (Magesi F. C)
The forgotten former Warriors and Baroka F. C goalie was in good form over the weekend as he kept a clean sheet in his team’s 2-0 Win in the South African Championship league. He made some crucial saves during the game to earn him the first spot on the Team Of the Week.
Right-Back – Tendayi Darikwa (Apollon Limassol)
Tendayi Darikwa is currently enjoying his football in Cypriot Top Division with Apollon Limassol. The Zimbabwe Warriors ‘minister of defence’ was solid in defence for his team, keeping a clean sheet and providing an assist as they registered a 2-0 Win over AEL on Sunday. He now has a two goal contribution in his last two league matches for Apollon Limassol.
Left-Back – Ronald Pfumbidzai (Supersport United)
If there is one player who does his job quietly and thoroughly it has to be ‘The Teacher’ Ronald Pfumbidzai. Sometimes you would think he is not there but his effectiveness on the field of play is greatly felt and appreciated by his teammates at large. The Warriors defender had an outstanding game in Supersport United’s 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs making five clearances, four tackles, two interception and won eight out of eleven duels he was involved in. He had a 7,4 rate out of ten.
Center – Back – Munashe Garananga (Sheriff Tiraspol)
After his incredible performance in the Europa league 1-2 loss to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma – where he got the better of AS Roma wingers of Italian international Stephan El Sharaawy and Argentinian star Paulo Dybala, The former Ubuntu Cape Town academy graduate continued with his outstanding performance in the league match as they register a 1-0 win over Zimbru to continue with their perfect start in the league.
Center-Back Teenage Hadebe (Huston Dynamo)
Teenage Hadebe returned to the MLS from a long-term injury Layoff like he never left. The Zimbabwe Warriors was on fire on his first match after five months out making an incredible ten clearances and a rating of 7,3 over ten as they win 4-1 against Vancouver white Caps. Hadebe followed his next game with a much more polished performance scoring a goal in the team’s 2-1 Win Over Kansas City.
Central midfielder – Marvelous Nakamba (Luton Town)
Marvelous Nakamba has been consistent ever since he returned to the Premier league with Luton Town. The Zimbabwean has been outstanding in all his five matches so far besides not getting maximum points out of it. On his game against Wolves, the Zimbabwean was once again on it, making huge ball recoveries and shielding the defence as Luton Town registered their first point in the Premier league.
Winger – Tawanda Chirewa (Wolves U-21s)
Tawanda Chirewa has began his career at Wolves after joining in from Ipswich Town like a roof on fire providing an assist in his first game a 2-2 against Norwich before another outstanding performance in the Premier league two encounter against Liverpool but however they lost 0-2
Attacking midfielder Trey Nyoni – (Liverpool U18s)
The highly rated teenage star has already made a mark at Liverpool since joining in at the beginning of September. Nyoni has already scored five goals plus two assists in four games after scoring in the extra time to rescue all the points for Liverpool against Everton on Saturday. Nyoni gave an assist on his debut against Crystal Palace, scored three goals in a friendly match versus Southend and another goal and assist against Blackburn Rovers before his first league goal over the weekend.
Striker – Nyasha Mushekwi (Zhejiang)
Like wine Mushekwi is getting better with age. The former Zimbabwe Warriors (36) is currently among the Chinese super league goalscorer contender with 18 goals in 25 matches after scoring a brace over the weekend his fourth of the season so far as Zhejiang crush Shenzhen 5-0 in the league match.
Forward – Terrence Dzvukamanja (Supersport United)
The former Orlando Pirates striker scored one of the best goals you will see this season in the Dstv premiership after netting a close range thunderbolt in Supersport United’s 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend. Dzvukamanja is highly clinical in the 18 yard box and his goal for Supersport is a testimony of his ‘killer instincts’.
Winger – Silas Songani (IF Vestri)
The former FC Platinum forward is currently having a good time in Iceland for IF Vestri’s promotional push as he scored the only goal to take his team to the next round of the playoffs after beating 1-0. Songani has now scored four goals this season.
