Chiwome Back With A Bang As Chirewa Impresses On Debut

Leon Chiwome scored on his return to action as Wolves under-21s drew 2-2 against Norwich City in their opening Premier League Cup encounter at Loftus Training Center on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old striker who was born in England to a Zimbabwean father and a British mother, scored the equalizer in the 88th minute after coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute as Wolves development side secured a point in Group C of the Premier league cup that consist of the Canaries, Bournemouth and Charlton Athletic.

It was Chiwome’s first minutes of the season having overcome a niggling injury that kept him away for four months.

Earlier on in the first half new boy Tawanda Chirewa who received his first start for the Molineux side a day after completing his move from Ipswich Town, showed his new employers what he is made of after threading a defence-splitting pass in behind the Norwich defence, which McLeod latched onto and clinically fired in at the near post to give Wolves the lead in the first eight minutes of the game.

Norwich didn’t take time to find the equaliser as they scored in the 16th minute through Ken Aboh to level the scores before doubling the scores to take the lead in the 53rd minute.

Chiwome who signed for Wolves from AFC Wimbledon in July 2022 and newboy Tawanda Chirewa will be looking to build on from their latest performance for the under-21s as they travel to Liverpool next weekend for their Premier league two encounter.
