Munetsi Starts Where He Left Off

Nyasha Munetsi continues with his impressive form for Stade Reims in the French Ligue One after picking up where he left off last season.

The 27-year-old who scored seven goals and provided three assist last season – scored his first goal of the season as Reims claimed their first league win in 2-0 victory over Clermont Foot on Sunday. The goal comes after the Zimbabwean midfielder registered an assist in Reims’ 2-1 loss league opener against Marseille in the previous weekend.

Munetsi has now registered a goal plus assist in his first two league matches of the season and looking at his current conversion rate, the Zimbabwean looks to have improved his goal return for the club in a single season.

In his first season at Reims (2019-20 season), Munetsi registered a single assist in 17 league matches followed by a goal in 27 league matches in 2020/21 season.

The former Orlando Pirates defender continued to improve his goal scoring form for the club every season scoring five goals plus one assist in 24 league matches in the 2021/22 season before his current high return of seven goals plus three assists in 2022/23 season.

The Zimbabwean who is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder has also been thrown in as a central or defensive midfielder depending on the team’s tactics on the day.

He is slowly rising up to become one of the club’s best goalscorers playing from the midfield.
