Klopp Eyeing Mabaya For First Team Football

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is monitoring isaac Mabaya’s development for a possibility of including the youngster in the first team squad for the upcoming season.

The 17-year-old Liverpool academy star caught the eye during the team’s first preseason tour of Asia featuring in two games against Manchester united and Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s independent sports writer Jack Sear has noted that several departures in Liverpool’s wing-back positions have given the two academy full-backs Luke Chambers and Isaac Mabaya the opportunity to step up and impress with the Liverpool first team this summer.

The Preston born starlet with Zimbabwean heritage is included in Liverpool’s latest 31-member squad for their next tour in Austria.

He is one of the only three academy players to remain training with the first team as Klopp seems to have whittled down his options for the team’s second tour in Austria via Germany.

Mabaya was named on the bench in Klopp’s strong squad that beat RB Lipzing 5-0 in Germany on Thursday.

The recent departures of Nico Williams to Nottingham Forest and Conor Bradley’s loan move to Bolton, have left the Reds in need of another right-back.

With new signing Calvin Ramsay sidelined with an injury, Trent Alexander Arnold is the only other right back left in the team ahead of the new season, leaving Klopp to focus on Mabaya to step up as the next in line.
