Zimbabwe international midfieder Abubakar Moffat has won his second successive title and promotion in Spain after helping Club Deportivo Estepona to secure promotion to the RFEF Third Division over the weekend.
CD Estepona wrapped up the Championship triumph after beating CD Cantoria 2-0 on Saturday to amass 80 points from 34 games and a nine point gape from second placed Malaga City with two games left to play to complete the season.
The 24-year-old former Aces Academy graduate who established himself as a regular starter at Estepona since joining in at the beginning of the season, played full game- his 30th league match this season to ensure Group II Andalusian Division of Honor title and a return to RFEF Third Division for CD Estepona.
The Andalusian based side spent four seasons in the División of Honor before achieving promotion to Tercera División in May 2020.
The team only spend one season in the Tercera División, which was the fourth tier in Spanish football league system before it was replaced by Third División RFEF for the 2021-22 season, and became the fifth tier due to the creation of a new, semi-professional third division by the Spanish Federation RFEF called the Primera División RFEF, and were relagated back to the División of Honor.
Baka had a stellar season in the midfield for CD Estepona helping them to register 25 wins, six draws and have only lost four times from 34 league games played to date, logging four goals in the process.
It is the former Under-23 midfield lynchpin’s second consecutive ascention in the Spanish football hierarchy after helping FC Malaga City to Division Honor promotion last season.
Baka’s stock has risen tremendously over the past two years and is currently on the radar of several top clubs in Europe.
He is however expected to continue keeping up his stronghold at Estepona, as they look to move forward or stay longer in the Tercera División RFEF.
The team is scheduled to play Churriana CD and CD Casabermeja on the 12th and 19th June respectively to complete the season.
