Elisha Muroiwa Forced To Hang Up His Boots Due To A Medical Condition

Former Zimbabwe Warriors and Dynamos defender Elisha Muroiwa has been forced to bring down the curtain on his career on medical advice.

The 33-year-old defender who was last in the books of Zambian side Mufurira Wanderers, announced his retirement on Wednesday via social media after failing to recover from a recurring leg injury.

“Today I say goodbye to professional football. It wasn’t easy for me, it is the most painful decision I had to make but for the sake of my healthy, I had to stop. In good and bad times football was my life,” said Muroiwa via a twitter post.

The Glen View-born defender has been in and out of theater several times already trying to repair a leg injury, but all in vain.

” I had high hopes of playing football again after my fourth operation, but things didn’t go as planned.

“That was my last visit to the orthopedic and here I am today,”

“I feel free and satisfied with my decision and I don’t blame anyone, life goes on,” said the former Warriors center-back.

Muroiwa started his career at Twalumba stars before making his breakthrough at Dynamos in 2011.

In 2017 he moved to Tanzania side Singida United but did not stay long as he returned home to join Harare City.

In 2018 he briefly returned to Singida United only to leave again after a year to join Zambian side Mufulira Wanderers on a two year contract.

He made his Zimbabwe Warriors debut in 2016 and was part of the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations squad where he partnered Czech based center back Costa Nhamoinesu in Warriors defence.

The former Dynamos star made 12 international caps for Zimbabwe national team and scored a goal in the process having given his debut by coach Callisto Pasuwa.

The injury left Muroiwa physically and mentally drained and currently wants to take a break from football and is contemplating on a different career path.

“I have since lost that drive of football I had before. I love football and it has been my life but that passion is nolonger there. Maybe I just need to relax and get myself together regarding football and make a solid decision”, said Muroiwa
