MUNETSI SENDS CONDOLENCES TO CLUB DOCTOR WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE AFTER CONTRACTING COVID-19
Zimbabwe Warriors Midfielder Nyasha Munetsi send his condolences to the club doctor at Stade de Reims, Doctor Bernard Gonzalez who tragically committed suicide after contracting coronavirus.
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the 60-year-old doctor took his own life at home on Sunday afternoon after testing positive for the deadly virus.
Gonzalez had been in isolation together with his wife for almost two weeks after contracting coronavirus.
Munetsi who is currently on lock down in France after the deadly coronavirus outbreak first send his condolence message on twitter to the former club doctor who had been with the team for more than 20-years, before expressing his sadness to Soca263.
“Its a sad moment for everyone for a good man he was and we pray he is in a better place now,” said the 23-year-old Warriors midfielder.
Stade de Reims President Jean-Pierre Caillot was in shock as he paid homage to Gonzalez on the club website
“Words fail me, I am stunned by this news. This pandemic attacks Stade de Reims in the heart, he is a character who personifies Reims and a great professional of the sport who has left us.
His mission at the club of more than 20 years had been carried out with the utmost professionalism, in a passionate and even selfless manner.
Doctor Gonzalez, in the harshest periods for the club, worked on a voluntary basis (without payment). He is my personal doctor, and today all my thoughts, those of the club where he will remain a strong figure, go to his wife and his parents”
Like the rest of the world, the French Ligue is currently on suspension due to the novel coronavirus, with players working from home.
France has been one of the hardest-hit nations worldwide by coronavirus with 8,078 deaths and 92,839 confirmed cases, while 16,183 people have recovered from the disease.
